This little, tiny hole-in-the-wall restaurant with a boarded up front window is incredible. I’ve eaten there probably 10 times now waiting to find something to complain about and besides the discomfort of my back in their booths I have nothing bad to say. Their food is incredible and consistent. The egg roll are top notch, the sweet sauce is delightful, the hot and sour soup is amazing and the won ton soup is tasty. The bbq ribs are so so good. Nice and tangy. Then the Beef and peapods never disappoints, the Mongolian Shrimp is just right and the Empress Chicken with pan fried noodles is scrumptious. There’s never anyone in there when my husband and I are there…I don’t know why. The food is great!!
This food is probably the best Chinese food I’ve had I had the sweet and sour chicken and shrimp fried rice and egg roll, The Best Egg Roll hands down the sweet and sour chicken was so fresh and it was crispy the rice perfectly cooked and seasoned I had the lunch special for like $14.00 it was so filling and I can’t wait to go back
Hidden in plain sight, old school Chinese restaurant vibes with real ma and pa energy. Portions are pretty big, prices are super reasonable (kind of wild for this economy), and the food just hits. Service is quick, they bring out hot tea right away, and the menu has plenty of options. I love that the meals come with soup, and the lunch specials even on Saturdays are clutch. Everything feels simple, comforting, and real. Definitely a spot I’d come back to without thinking twice.
“Palace Cantonese is a hidden gem that deserves all the hype.” The Beef Egg Fu Young? Absolute perfection — fluffy, rich, and full of flavor in every bite. The Spicy Beef Fried Rice? Simply amazing… the kind of dish that keeps you coming back over and over. And don’t even get me started on the Veggie Egg Rolls — golden, crispy, and packed with fresh flavor. Every plate feels like comfort food done right, with that authentic Cantonese taste that hits both tradition and satisfaction. The portions are generous, the flavors bold, and the service makes you feel at home. This isn’t just dinner — it’s a food experience worth sharing. #TrueAuthenticOriginal #ChicagoEats #FoodieFinds #YeahYeahYeahDoIt #PalaceCantonese #OneChicagoMasterpiece
I ordered small Shrimp rice and it was delicious. The small size is great for one person. I was skeptical while ordering my this order because many times food doesn't match with my taste. This food was freshly made with excellent aroma as I wanted it to be. Excellent price, great food, readily available for pick up in 15 mins and courteous staff. Highly recommended.
This restaurant offered good food at a decent price. We enjoyed the lunch portions of Chicken and Broccoli, Beef and Green Peppers, and The Cashew Chicken. The portions were large and enough for two meals. The server checked labels for me for my caramel color allergy and specifically told me what I could and could not have. I would eat here again and I'm sure this is a popular spot in the neighborhood.
My Mom and I were looking for a new (new to us) Chinese-American restaurant. Palace Cantonese surpassed all expectations. Every plate we had was delicious and food was hot. The service by Calvin was outstanding. We entered the restaurant and were the only ones during this late lunch time. We sat in the comfortable and cozy booth (firm for what my back needs). Right away, Calvin brought delicious hot tea and water. The Fried Won Ton, which is hard to find without meat, was perfectly fried, not soggy. The cup of egg drop soup was a generous portion, more like a medium bowl. The veggie egg rolls were large and tasty. The Chicken Szechuan, was like a kung pao chicken and very flavorful. I loved the touch from Calvin bringing extra peanuts without us asking. He also asked if we needed more tea even though our steel carafe was half full. At similar restaurants, I’ve not seen that service. The final touch was receiving 2 almond cookies (plus fortune cookies), which my Mom and I love. It’s my new favorite restaurant which I will be patronizing every time I’m in Chicago.
A tie for the best place I've ever eaten Chinese food. Because I travel for a living I eat out a lot, and Chinese is one of my favorites. The waitress was terrific, and the food was absolutely amazing.
